I love Cricket - anyone else?
I love cricket, love lazy warm days at the G, love watching our amazing team slaughter everyone else.
And last night 20/20 was fantastic, so much fun to watch. Anyone else into cricket, I know not so many females are?
I usually take a bunch of kids with me and have a great time over summer!

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
A cricket thread!
I love cricket!
I'm a member of the WACA so go to heaps of State games and of course, the international ones. But we decided not to go to the 20/20 the other night because the crowds are really, really bad for 20/20 ... I think they try and drink as much in 40 overs and they would if it was a 100 over game
. After the last state 20/20 I was really scared walking to my car
.
I love test matches and have seen them in Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth ... I've never been to five days live because of problems getting babysitters but I've come close to it
. I'm looking foward to the India test match here in Perth next year

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
I only kind of watch the cricket on and off- but the players I do really like are Ponting, Gilchrist, Lee, Hodge. I am more of a tennis person really to be honest, but I was watching the cricket on Tuesday night, 20/20 is alright, the first time I have watched it. I have been to the Boxing Day Test before and a couple of one dayers, but that was a few years back, cos I always save my money to go to the tennis or music concerts instead, since I am not as enamoured with the cricket as I am the others.
I met Hodgey a long time ago, he was a friend of an old workmate of mine- very nice guy.

I love symmonds and gilly they are always so very gracious and amusing with kids, give them waves & winks and stuff. Also like Ponting & Lee.
I have wonderful memories of sitting up all night watching tests from OS with my late Mum, she was cricket mad & came from radio days listening to the ABC in her country town. she was thrilled beyond belief to meet Bradman at some dinner before he died.
I have met old cricketers - Chapells, Lillee, Walker, Hooks and all of those era guys, Imran Khan was divine, utterly charming and gorgeous.Last year the kids just adored the barmyarmy antics and met their leader Jimmie. We saw Shane WArne bowl for the last time, and McGrath, and we even went to the Warnie charity match which was fantastic.
AmandaR - your a wild woman and I love it:)

Damn all of this crap going on and ruinng the cricket.
Sack the idiot calling most loudly for Ponting's sacking. Peter Roebuck is a digraceful Englishman, never played Test Cricket, most famous for captianing a one day English team losing to - Holland!
And shunned by his homeland for this -
Sack Peter Roebuck, it is he who is a disgrace. They guy calling most loudly for Ricky's dismissal is most famous for - leading an English team beaten by Holland, yes Holland, and for caning young boys bare arses.
The Age calls hem 'respected'This is Peter Roebuck -
Roebuck in 2001 was given a suspended jail sentence after admitting caning three young cricketers he had offered to coach. He pleaded guilty to three charges of common assault involving three South African teenagers between 1 April and 31 May, 1999.[1] Roebuck was originally accused of indecent assault but pleaded guilty to lesser charges of common assault. However, the judge said he did not accept the purity of Roebuck's motives. He said: "It was not appropriate to administer corporal punishment to boys of this age in circumstances such as these. It seems so unusual that it must have been done to satisfy some need in you." Ian Fenny prosecuting said: "Roebuck then pulled the boy towards him, in what appeared to be an act of affection. He then asked if he could look at the marks on the boy's buttocks, something which he in fact did."
I am disgusted by Roebuck being paid for his sick views. How the hell did he get a job at the Age

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
This whole issue with the cricket at the moment is an absolute bloody disgrace.
The Indians problem should be with the UMPIRES not the Australians. They're whinging about Michael Clarkes catch. Clarke was 100% sure he caught it so Ponting indicated that to the umpire, now if the Umpire had his doubts he could still refer it to the third umpire. this is not Ponting nor Clarkes fault that he didn't get another look at it, it falls squarley on the shoulders of the umpires.
I believe that if the match was drawn, India would not have complained.
Harbajan should be suspended for racism. He was warned in the one day series that calling somebody a "monkey" is classed as racist, and if he did it again, he would be banned. He needs to cop it sweet, I also noticed nothing was said about the monkey roll he did after getting Ponting out. It was quite disgraceful.
It has just been proven that India has the power to influence the ICC, especially given that Singh is now alloewd to play until his hearing is done, and the umpires have been changed. They flex their muscle, and the ICC bend over backwards to meet it.
Anil Kumble was right, only one team was playing int he spirit of the game - Australia.
What is with that Ishanti Sharma taking two right gloves out to bat with, blatantly a time wasting move. You cannot tell me somebody would be so stupid as to not check their gloves etc before they went to the crease.
International cricket is a disgrace - in the recent South African game, a number 10 or 11 batsmen went out to the crease with a runner, only to turn around and open the bowling maybe an hour later, and ended up taking 4 wickets, I'm sure he was injured *roll*
So yes. a massive vent on why I hate cricket at the moment lol

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
I believe what we are seeing is a taste of the future for cricket. Once India get all the 'private' cricket comps happening over there offeriing huge sums of money to players I believe that cricket will end up like basketball or baseball in the US with 'team' owners buying and selling players etc. The Indians will end up contolling everything as the ICC has to continually bow to their demands simply due to the revenue that can be raised in India through cricket.
It is unfortunate that some ill-informed people think that the Australian team 'cheated' by claiming 'dropped' catches, not walking etc. Players do not walk in cricket and if Ponting did not make the catch then his head is purple, it certainly was not dropped on then ground and then picked up again as some seem to be trying to claim.
As for the team not playing 'in the spirit' I always see the team congratulating other team's players for scoring centuries or getting hat tricks etc and whilst the Aussie team sledge and are happy to be sledged in return what they are complaing about is racist remarks that are certainly not the same as sledging.
If Hogg gets suspended for calling someone a bastard (swearing) and Singh gets off for racist remarks then the ICC is a real joke and it suggests that they will always bow to the BCCI and the future of cricket as we know it is in serious doubt.
I can remember some seriously dubious decisions going against the Aussies in the 2005 Ashes campaign a number that could be considered as 'turning' the match but not once did the Austrlians blame the umpires. They commented on the decisions but then said that in the end they were beaten by a better team. India should take a leaf out of their book not try to act as though Australia cheat, bribe and coerce officials.

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Ahh Michael Bevan and that famous innings.
I have tickets to 20/20 and ODI at the MCG, who will they substitute if India continues witht heir tantrum and runs home to Mummy.
I really want to hear from Greg Chappell, who would have the most relevant view on all of this fracas, he was royally sick of Indians acting like divas and babies.
No matter who in the end is at fault - India are behaving like spoilt fools right now and I hope they get thrashed in Canberra.
Calling Ponting's parents is really beyond the pale (I'm sure you have heard they have had to change their phone number due to abusive calls/threats).
Unlike certain sports 'journalists' Ponting has behaved admirably since this incident, he's been humble and diplomatic.
Damn all of this I was really looking forward to some fine play at the MCG.

I'm gunna have a whinge about Hogg having to face a racist charge.
He called a couple of the Indian's "bastards" and now has to face racism charges.
To Indians, being called a bastard is insulting, but how is it racist? It in no way shape or form insults their skin colour, place of origin religion or anything.
And he will have to get banned because the precedent has been set by Harbajan. It is an absolute bloody disgrace.
Monkey is racist. Bastard is just insulting.
I think it's about time the Indian team grew up.

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
I love cricket, and must admit my favorite form is the test match. I love how it can ebb and flow from team to team and to see all the strategy. I once described a test match to an American friend, and she claimed it sounded like quidditch with really bad seekers.
I watched the Sydney Test. The only batsman I know that walks is Gilly. I admire him for that, but when he believes he is in and stays he has still been given out by the umpire. It is the umpires job to decide out or not. The batsman can stay at the crease until that descision is made. Roy was lucky, but in the past he has had descisions against him too. I did not see Indian players walking either. I know one dismissal in particular on replay was dodgy but about 2 overs later another went the other way. Swings and roundabouts. Ponting caught the ball and landed with it nd it touched the ground (still in his hand) technically that was a dropped catch, but in the split second it happened he most possibly did not realise the ball had touched the ground. No one else appealed because they saw it, but he was in the catch and a totally different situation.
Unfortunatley the Aussies are disliked because they win. Othr teams claim they cheat the fact of the matter is they are well trained and have a belief in themselves other teams dont. The Australians play to win, not to draw, as a result they win or lose, and very rarely draw. They also field better than any other team because they train at fielding and select better over all players. In any sport the 1 percenters make the difference, and in cricket for Australia it is those singles they get 2 on and the singles they save in the field. I believe their fielding probably is the equivalent of an extra 2 wickets from a bowler and their running between wickets the equivalent of another batsman makig between 20-50 runs each innings. These make them a harder team to beat. My favorite player was and still is Roy, followed closely by Gilly.

Don't go gilly!
Gosh, I'm recording this whole test match thinking it would be the last time I might see Dravid and Laxman bat ... had no idea that I would be recording Gilly's last test match!
The one-dayer here in Perth is going to be HUGE.
I've been alternating between watching the test match on TV and watching the live-scores of the Blues match on the internet ... NSW have WA on the ropes at 4/45 in their second dig, trailing by 51 runs. I wish I was at the SCG
. Katich made 189 ... that guy is a run machine!

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Well alty, the last day for Adam Gilchrist - end of an era. Can't even imagine watching cricket without him behind the stumps or smashing some bowler over the fence!! Seems such a great guy too...
I'm so looking forward to today's play - and I swear, hero or not, if Laxman stops our win today - gets another century, or saves an innings - I will not be a happy camper!! That goes for Tendulkar too!! (You can tell I just love the game of cricket, no matter who wins - not!! hehe)
Then again, our own fielders seem to be helping in that regard...what's with all the dropped catches??
Anyhoo, have a great time watching the Test; and huge buckets of cheers for Adam Gilchrist today...
sensor
Ha I don't think we're going to see Laxman play today ... if we do, check out his wrists ... wristy batters are beautiful to watch!
Gilly will be sorely missed. I remember after one match here in Perth (3rd test when Aust won the Ashes back), we were walking in front of the Aust sheds to leave the ground, when we saw a little boy with these enormous orange and white pads on. His Dad said Gilly just handed them to him! It was sooooo sweet.
I have the whole of this match on video tape, where Gilly made a century:

We were at the game that night and the atmosphere was electric. After Gilly made his century he shook hands with Simon Katich and gave him a hug:

My husband and I are massive fans of Simon Katich. For a few years there, we hung out for every team selection announcement and would be overjoyed if Katich made the team ... but were often bitterly disappointed  . Just prior to this match, Gilly had been very supportive of Katich in the papers and in interviews which we really appreciated! At that point in the above photos, I turned to my husband sitting next to me, and we were both crying! I'll never forget it. (Simon went on to make 82 and got a standing ovation when he left the pitch).
PS. apologies for the photo size ... I need to get some graphics software installed asap.

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Have been posting all my cricket meanderings in the wrong thread - apologies!!
Pudel, you must be gutted today. I just can't think of an Aussie cricket team without Gilchrist, either!!
Since it's lunch, thought I would just say it looks like a draw - damn that Sehwag - and I hope M. Clarke is doing penance...
Love your big photos alty - don't recognise that one-dayer, but Katich is certainly a great player - and came to NSW from WA!! (Not hard on the eyes, either). Think he was a casualty from our last Ashes loss...
And of course, Gilly's century - what an assault that was!! Love that story about his keeping pads- it's nice to hear that some of our great sportsmen are great peeps too.
Back to the cricket!!

Lovin those blues!!
You never know, Bollinger might be on the tour to Pakistan. He's really being praised!!
I'm so ignorant of threads, it's obscene. Had no idea this thread existed!! Glad you pointed me in the right direction...
Just saw a little "cameo" that was done, re. Clark's missed catches this series - oh dear. To be fair, most of them were in slips, which isn't his usual position.
Glad Gilly's taken a catch today...yay!!

I hope Dougy gets on the tour ... he's an exciting bowler, and he seems like a great guy  . A picture from the game:

Big match for the Blues coming up in Feb ... playing VIC at the SCG. A battle to see who's hosting the final. :bounce:

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
A sad afternoon. Pity the match fizzled out like that. Gilly looked happy and relaxed though - he must be at peace with his decision. Feel sorry for Haddin - what huge footsteps to be following.
Seeing Hayden, Symonds and Ponting all limping around like wounded warriors made me realise our team is ageing - I guess these retirements are going to be happening more often...
And Bollinger - was it eight wickets for the match?? Not a shabby effort. It's a hot competition right now, for a bowling spot...Love that pic, but maybe they should go easy on ruffling his hair!!

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Aww not Gilly. damn it I love him to bits. He has been utterly magical and I will miss him so, at least my other fave Roy is still there.
I was glued to the Tv today and gilly was so cute, did you catch him telling the tall Indian bowler (can't spell his name) to go for it look how close that boundary is, never get another chance like this. Aww I will miss his cheeky fun ways.
Wish India had declared, I just really wanted to see him come out and open possibly.
Can't wait for the 20/20 and ODI.

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
He's a classic isn't he. And what about that lady who made a goodbye poster, with ears attached to either side?? Very sweet.
Even though we didn't see him bat again, it was a lovely tribute to have Gilly take the field alone, after the tea-break. What a moment...
Anyway, great memories he's given us and it's been a joy!!

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
I don't watch very much cricket at all during the summer, I have however whenever I have watched it, (which is only little bits here and there unless Gilly is batting or to a lesser extent Ponting, well I just don't really bother), anyway what I am saying is that I loved watching Gilly, I tuned in big time whenever he was batting, and I cannot imagine the team without him and I guess it means I shall be tuning in even less.
Bye Gilly, you have been wonderful and you will be so missed ( even by sporadic cricket viewers, like me)
I am an AFL girl during winter and a tennis girl during summer and I am now suffering from withdrawal symptoms, back to the tennis forums I go- esp Rafa's site and Fernando Gonzalez's Msn site.

Shaun Tait has quit all forms of cricket indefinitely
Didn't see that one coming.

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Hadn't heard that!! Is he injured? Or unhappy at being overlooked? It's a pity...
However, maybe Bollinger might be really in the mix now, for a spot on the tour...

Re: I love Cricket - anyone else?
Tait says he's physically and mentally exhausted - they have been building him up a touch too much and the stress seems to have freaked him.
20/20 - Wow, what a thumping right from the first over, fantastic. The MCG is just awesome.
