I'm on here to have a bit of a gripe. Perth annoys me so much! Just because I want to buy warm coats for my twin girls for our Europe trip there aren't any to buy. I've tried DJ, Myer, Target, KMart the lot, I've tried Gumboots, Pumpkin Patch, all the kids clothing retailers. Basically, all the buyers here have decided that girls aged 8 to 14 do not require warm winter coats. You can buy them plenty of pretend bras, skimpy Hannah Montana t-shirts and leather-look mini skirts but the closest thing to a warm coat is a hideous puff bomber jacket with a fur hood that looks like a dead ferret. Then the sales assistants will try to make excuses like "well apart from this winter, Perth never has really cold winters". If that's the case then why are there so many coats for men, women and boys on sale here? No it's really because the buyers are thick as two bricks and just want to cater for the 'tweenie' trends.

So I'm thinking I'll have to abandon Perth and go seek out warm coats in Melbourne. I'm assuming that because Melbourne always has cold winters then there are plenty of coats for girls. Or are the buyers over there as dense as they are in Perth? Could someone from Melbourne let me know if they've noticed the state of tween-girls' coat stocks over there?

On a brighter note.......I've booked tickets for the Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party snoopy

Aha I found coats for my girls in an Asian style imports boutique at a shopping centre I've never been to before and my girls love them. One red, one white and padded for a bit of warmth. They'll do at least until we see something better in Japan or Europe. But I'm still going to Melbourne! My friend in Sydney rang me going stir crazy with her job so we are both taking time out from families and we'll meet to wander the Melbourne laneways without the usual encumbrances. Booked West side Story at the Regent also - should be good. It opens 19 August and we're going on the second night. Got okay seats despite late booking as I went through Showbiz ticketing rather than Ticketmaster.

What's happening with everyone else? Even with no Carl news it's nice to hear what we're all getting up to in our non-Carl existences. Oh I just realized my chat consists of shopping - er, sorry to bore hehe.

Hey Amby!!

Love the new banner!

Amanda and I saw Carl two weeks ago - not too sure exactly what he's up to - a few charity gigs here and there it seems. Quite a few of my friends are bumping into him in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, so I guess he's out and about haha.

He did put on Twitter a month or so ago that he was keen for a chat - we've been trying to organise with him...with no success haha, but he's not on twitter frequently so he's probably not seen our messages lol.

I hope you've been well, and everythings going well for you!!

I'm off to go stare at that banner some more haha

Hiya Amby!! wave I wish you were on here more often but I do love it that your rare visits are heralded by a new look forum or banner. Absolutely lovin' the new one hearts

You're sounding like your usual bouncy happy self snoopy glad life's good for you luvvie. Hope you can come on a bit more often. . . . . And honeyman too! Like you, and I think that Amanda and Jodes feel the same, we can't help worrying about him and hope his path isn't too rocky. I like to think that he's doing lots of his 'bread and butter corporates' and that's what's keeping him busy. I hope Amanda and Jodes can get him on for a chat so we can find out what he's been doing. I'm even prepared to delay dragging him to the naughty corner just to find out what his plans are ... for a few minutes maybe.

Yes I still miss my dogs. It's really hard on my girls as the dogs were just always there all their lives. I really loved the oldest one that just died. I always said she picked me at the dog pound where I got her. She was such a weird, existentialist, nervy but cute mutt - we had a connection haha! Sad Don't get me started I get all weepy. Wish they could live forever.

Well I'd best go get some beauty rest or I might start looking my age. Night all! Sleep

The topic has been discussed many times between myself and Amanda, we've thrown HEAPS of theories around - most of them unlikely scenarios.

But you're right, we do worry a little - and I know I'm personally wondering what he's up to, he was pretty vague with information on the GC, not that we really did ask too much, or probe too much.

Here's hoping for a chat soon haha.

Hi everyone, have not been on here for a while. I have actually not long been out of hospital, a four day stay with cellulitis in my right leg, slowly, slowly it is getting better, it is almost to the end of the fourth week now. I have to get it dressed each day at the doctors and take two lots of penicillin medication four times daily and elevate my leg as much as possible. I don't know how it happened, it was like severe inflammation and rash and blisters and still is, but much less inflammation now, the meds are working slowly and I can at least walk on it better now and put my shoes on now.

Non communicato with ex at this stage, oh well, it just was not meant to be I guess and it all started out so nicely at first.

I hope you mum is doing well now Amanda, sorry to hear about that. Yes my leg is getting ok now, thankgoodness for penicillin. It is getting itchy and flaky now, but I still have to get it dressed every second day now. My foot swells up still if I am on it too long, it got a bit swollen, whilst I was waiting in line to vote on the weekend, standing on hard concrete. There were quite a few others I saw in the very same boat as me, as in problems with legs and they too were anxious about how long they had to wait in the line. Fortunately the line moved along faster than I thought it would have.

All this waiting in the line for voting and still no clear result about who will be leading us.

Sorry to hear you've not been well Yvonne. I haven't heard of that condition cellulitis. How is your mum doing Amanda? Make sure she stays positive.

I got back from Melbourne on Sunday night. We had a great time. My friend from Sydney was desperate for a break from her work and the drudgery of domestic life. We started off with a visit to my niece who owns a manicure salon in Camberwell for pedis and manicures. After that shopping, then we changed into our finery and went to the Crown Casino to find a restaurant. We had to wait a bit to get a table at Nobu so we went to an upstairs bar and had champagne and olives. The food at Nobu was beautiful but it was really too noisy. It was also really expensive. From there on the trip just degenerated in obscene spending! I need a shower, it makes me feel dirty. I'm a bargain lover but we just went to one designer store after another and my friend could spend hours in one shop. Not to mention the makeup counters in David Jones which I usually can't wait to get out of as I'm usually writhing on the floor from the toxic perfumes being sprayed left and right. I bided my time constructively however, by locating the good looking male makeup consultants and getting some close up consultation on lipstick shades. Hell I know they were GAY but still ever so nice to look at up close. My friend also needed a hairdresser visit, so while she did that I went to a piercing den. I wouldn't call it a salon as it wasn't that chic! I wanted my ears pierced and thought it was as good a time as any. The girl behind the counter had jet black hair and piercings on every extremity but incredibly just large holes where her earlobes should have been. Someone lay under a blanket groaning on a couch which had me wondering what painful procedure could they have been through. When the girl sullenly told me they used only needles not piercing guns I changed my mind. However, she forced a slow Wednesday Addams smile and explained the benefits of needles. Well if my friend had been with me she would have marched me straight out but without such better judgement I decided to go through with it. The needles were indeed disposable syringe needles, long shiny, sterile and pointy. The sound as she stabbed the needles through was like sawing gristley bacon. But here I am on-line shopping for earrings, Yay! I survived. Westside Story at the Regent was fabulous. My friend was in tears and my eyes were pooling up too. Also I looooooved the Tim Burton exhibition at Fed Square, that was an absolute highlight for me.

Next time I go for a girly break with my friend I'm going to have to get a second job and save up first.

You capture the mood of the piercing parlour well Angeo, and I know exactly the sound you're talking about - both times my ears were pierced, they were done with guns, but, I had my tongue pierced once upon a time, and the sound of muscle tearing as a needle goes through is not a pleasant one in the slightest haha!

I'm keen to get down to Melbourne to see the Tim Burton exhibition, a colleague of mine went to both that, and the Titanic exhibition this weekend just gone, and really rated them both.

Yvonne, I hope your leg gets better soon, and Amanda, how is your mum? I meant to ask earlier today lol!

Things with me never seem to change, I'm half heartedly doing a little job hunt, but nothing serious at the moment. I have the itch to go travelling a bit at the moment too, but hopefully that will be scratched with our little roadtrip to Lockhart to see Carl - yes, we're going to one of those regional ones haha, we just can't keep ourselves away!

I find myself being kept busy lately, so I've not been around much, but I'm hoping to change that!

Haha, since I got through the primitive ears piercing I've had a fleeting fancy that it wouldn't be such a hard thing to get it done elsewhere. Just fleeting I assure you.

I could have spent longer in the Tim Burton exhibition. Incredibly my friend who could spend hours in David Lawrence Boutique got through TB half an hour ahead of me! I saw the Salvadore Dali exhibition last September and my dear hubs and I dawdled there for hours and stayed for the burlesque shows afterwards. They were very similar in many ways Dali and Burton, with their fascination for the surreal and macabre, especially the absurdity of the mundane. The difference being Burton's humour and his belief in love and goodness and wholesome happy endings.

I'm working round the clock, proofreading again. Can't help taking time out at intervals though as it's boring, boring Engineering regulations. Still... gotta pay for that holiday... and the next one.

Whoah! You had your tongue pierced?? worship

Yeah, I think I was 15 at the time... I had it done, turns out my body rejected the nickel that was in the ring, and I was making a mercy dash to a different piercer at 10pm the following night so he could unscrew the ball because it was getting embedded in my tongue, due to swelling. Disgusting, but it was enough to turn me off piercings haha.

I have been given the all clear by the doctor now, she said just to finish off my meds(which will be done tomorrow), the skin is all flaky and I have to moisturise with sorbolene a couple of times daily, it is still red, but it will heal on its own from now on.

Cellulitis is quite painful, it is quite common, but you have to get onto it very early before it spreads, as it can do so very rapidly. My leg was swollen, red and had huge blisters. I needed over three weeks of meds (two lots of penicillin) and all up it has taken about five weeks to get over it, but I imagine the redness not disappearing for a little while yet. I used up many bandages, gauze, etc both at the hospital and in the doctors surgery.

But I can now walk a fair distance which is good. I was able to go to the footy on Saturday night. Go Dogs in the finals, only trouble is the Pies are getting all their big name stars back like Didak and Neon Leon Davis, but in the finals, to be the best, you have to beat the best. However finishing fourth means we do have a double chance.

I am inclined to think both the Hawks and the Swans can do some damage in the finals series. Ultimately I still think Geelong will win the flag yet again.

Hi guys! wave How have you all been?! I see Angeo has been on holidays getting some piercing done! How are they going..all healed up now Angeo? Sounds like you had a super holiday anyway!

Amanda, how is your mum going? I hope she's home and starting to get around a bit better now...

Yvonne..hope your leg is healing up well now too! Hi Jodes and anyone else who come in for a visit! I'm at mums..we're just off to the markets down at the Port... looking forward to some donuts and coffee afterwards!!!

Does anyone know where Carl is and what he's doing? Mums been keeping me posted... just the occasional gig here and there.... I'm thinking that he would have to have gone and got a job somewhere by now... I don't think he'd be getting a regular income much at all now without some sort of work...Unless he's doing something on the musical side that we don't know about.. it would be great to hear from him..... I wonder where he is? bananasad

Anyway, see you all later!!! Off to the markets!!! Hope you like the new banner too!! star

I love the banner, I thought something was different when I came here haha!

A few of my friends have seen Carl out and about in the Eastern Suburbs/Northern Beaches...so he's around,...but all attempts to lure him here have been futile.

But like Amanda said, we're off to see him in a month or so, I'm excited haha!

Jodie and Amanda - say hello to Carl from all of us when you see him and tell him that we wish him all the best. I hope he doesn't have any regrets for the way his career is going as even though things are not moving as quickly as he would probably like, he is still very young and there are so many opportunities out there for him in the future I'm sure. And all the joy he has given us over the last few years is something to be very proud of.

Amanda, please pass along my good wishes to your mum for a speedy recovery, we just never know what is around the corner do we and good health is so precious. I hope she is on the mend now anyway.

See you later girls and I'll drop in again soon! Very Happy

hey amby,
mum is doing well, she came home on wednesday and is settling back in ok, still hard trying to understand what she is saying a lot of the time because of her mumbled speech but we get there eventually.
just being very carefull at the moment because she is on warfrin a blood thinner and until they get her blood consistancy right to much can cause and ulcer and not enough can cause another clot. also the slightest scratch can make her bleed out and any knocks or bruises can cause internal bleeding. so it's very scary times at the moment. but she is doing well.
we heard from carl on twitter the other day and he to has had some ban news. apparently yohan mirkin the guitarist from he's first tour has passed away and he was only very young, not sure of the circumstances but Carl is pretty choked up by the sad passing.
me and jodie are seeing him in 2 weekends time down in lockhart so now doubt we will bombard him with questions as to how he's music etc is coming along if he is still pursueing it.
hope you and mum are well and craig and hope to chat real soon.

Post by Yvonne Tue 05 Oct 2010, 2:52 pm

Well I was no good at picking winners from either the AFL Grand final or the NRL, I went for St Kilda, since they defeated my beloved Western Bulldogs in the Preliminary Final and I wanted them to go on and take the whole prize out. I do dislike Collingwood (the Magpies)though, but they do deserve credit for being the best team this year. They are the team here in Melb, you either love them or hate them (hate is a very strong word though). Anyway good luck to them ( while I hope my boys can actually get into a GF someday, they have lost three prelim finals in a row).

The first Grand Final I enjoyed, I liked the intensity of it all and would dearly have loved to have seen a result. However the draw bought with it another opportunity to be able to watch another game of footy and I do love my footy and miss it during the summer months. Not so keen on the cricket, so will be waiting for the Aussie Open tennis to begin. I found I wished I was not watching it,(the 2nd GF) it was too one sided and not enjoyable at all (unless of course you are a Magpies supporter and there certainly are plenty of those, they are everywhere). Anyway I kept watching, just because of it being the very last game of the year. Normally if it was such a one sided game, I would have switched it off. I am dying to go to a Grand Final, but I would not entertain thoughts of going to one, unless it featured my boys and here I am waiting, waiting, waiting. However I will never change from my boys, never have wanted to.

My favorite player at the Doggies just hung up the boots after 363 games of AFL footy over 17 seasons- Brad Johnson, he has a book out right now and he is doing book signings all over the place at the moment. I went to his morning book signing on Saturday morning and I got to meet him and get a personally signed copy of the book (which is a very enjoyable read so far). I have met him twice before( he is just so nice and I do not just say that because I am a Doggies fan, lots of people I know barrack for other clubs and they nominate Johnno as their favorite player outside of their respective clubs) and was not going to pass up any opportunity to get my book personally signed. After the signing he went in to the MCG to join the commentary team on Channel 7 and was discussing the match at half time with the other commentators- I suspect he would enjoy a media career. I personally think that Tom Harley-ex Geelong captain, has been outstanding in the media this year and well I just adore Matthew Richardson- he was my favorite player outside of the Doggies- I used to always be watching Richmond games just for him.

I wonder who is going to be the next captain after Johnno, he was a brilliant captain. I guess it is out of Matthew Boyd, Daniel Giansiracusa, Daniel Cross or Robert Murphy. I should have asked Johnno whom he thought his successor may be. I just thanked him for providing us with so many years of great footy and to enjoy doing the commentary for Channel 7 at the GF. I honestly do not mind who gets the role at all, I will be very happy with whomever they choose. It will be different and a little bit weird at first next year not seeing Johnno out on the ground in the famous number 6 red, white and blue guernsey, as we have been so accustomed to him being there for so long now. He is still a very young man at 34, but the body was obviously saying no more and he had an achilles problem. We know he has made the right call. He will stick around the club and still provide inspiration for the boys and watch their games.

I didn't even realise who was in the finals of the NRL until the last minute, I sort of tuned out to it all this year, since Storm were playing for no points, but we know a girl in Sydney who follows the Roosters, so we went for them. Channel 9 are very rude, they could have let us all see the presentations of the medals/trophy, but they cut to the news. As soon as the game was over that was it.

I'm a one - eyed opinionated Roosters supporter, so I was pretty devastated with the outcome of the game - but we got to see all the presentations and stuff here in Sydney, still doesn't make up for getting beaten by 24 points lol!

I'm not a big watcher/follower of AFL, but I casually barrack for Essendon, and wanted St Kilda to win the GF, but I guess I just lack in tipping this year haha!

But now theres no more football until next year (apart from the 4 nations), so I guess it's onto the cricket now for me haha

My guys- the Dogs got done by 24 points in the Preliminary final by St Kilda, so I was really, really wanting them to go on with the job and take out the Premiership. The Saints took out my guys in the Preliminary final last year too by a mere 7 points. You would think I would hate them ( well I don't exactly like them, but I like Collingwood even less) You just cannot go anywhere without running into Pies supporters.
Essendon needs to get heavily involved in trade week, I think and I am personally glad that James Hird is the new coach.
Even more impressed I am that Brett Montgomery has returned to the Western Bulldogs as a coach. Apparently he wasn't part of Carlton's plans as an assistant coach.

I suppose small consolation that we actually won the pre-season cup premiership against the Saints, its good, but everyone wants the big one of course.

Congrats to all the Aussies who have won medals over in Delhi. Now is it just me or are the commentators getting really greedy in regards to medals- today on one of the radio news broadcasts, they didn't mention the silver and bronzes we gained from the diving board (only the gold rates a mention this week apparently after our all conquering week last week).

A medal is a medal whatever the color may be and I am very proud of all our Aussies who have competed for our country and I will thank those commentators to give all athletes fair mention. Further to that I watch these games (though not all the sports take my fancy) to see the best in the world competing(though many of the very best didn't come) The tv coverage is lacking, but it is ok overall I guess, I am just watching off and on now- in between my usual programs- last week I was watching all the swimming events and the netball.

Someone is now telling me he still likes me (that is after not seeing me socially for a few months now). I don't feel the same anymore towards him (other than perhaps friendship). He got back in touch after finding out about my leg. I just don't feel the same anymore, I think I would rather be alone. He is hot and cold with me and i don't know where I am at.

Hows your leg going now Yvonne?

I agree about the medals - I've only heard about the gold - yet, we won an absolutely huge amount of silver and bronze as well...

I didn't really watch much of the games - apart from the ogling of Eamon Sullivan in the presence of Mr Riseley haha, but at least all went to plan in Delhi and came off without a hitch.

Ankle is still swollen, there are only two pairs of shoes I can fit into right now with my right foot, oh well and it is still red, but it is fading slowly. Thanks for asking. Yes I am fine. I am an aunty now to a beautiful little girl called Olivia. A week and a bit old she is and I am biased, but I think she is totally adorable.

All medals should be applauded. I thought the games went off quite well really, I really enjoyed the final of the netball, boy that was exciting, New Zealand was just to good in the end, but I found myself to know more about netball, than I actually thought I knew (if that makes sense).
