Re: what are you listening to?
i watched a great old school musical movie yesterday called i'll see you in my dreams with doris day in it and during the course she sang a song where the lyrics just screamed so true to me, i have since found that frank sinatra and ella fitzgerald have also done versions of this song. it's called the one i love belongs to somebody else
LYRICS:
You know the one I love belongs to somebody else.
That’s why he sings his songs to somebody else,
And even when you have your arms around him
You know his thoughts are with somebody else,
And when I hold his hands they belong to somebody else
And you can bet they’re not so cold to somebody else,
It’s tough to be alone on a shelf,
And it is worse to fall in love by yourself
When the one you love belongs to somebody else.
anyone else feeling these lyrics with me?

Re: what are you listening to?
I've been giving a lot of the older Standards a bit of a whirl at the moment.
Sinatra, Glen Miller, Etc Etc.
Just real mellow stuff, a bit of a change from the normal angry stuff I listen to hahaha.
And Amanda, I get why those lyrics scream true!

Re: what are you listening to?
i have been youtubing all kinds of old school clips it's amazing how many good songs are out there that i have heard in the past through my grandparents but have never listened to there lyrics. they truely don't write songs how they used to and the classics rock. i love them.

Re: what are you listening to?
Music today is becoming too commercialised.
I'm not saying there isn't amazing songs, lyrically, still coming through, but the vast majority lack the class of a time well before me.
Listen to us two fuddy duddies!!!
"BACK IN MY DAYYYY"

Re: what are you listening to?
and what is with that Usher song OMG?
I don't get the lyrics of Hey Soul Sister either, first couple of times I liked the song, now I hate it and the same with Fireflies and Bad Romance. Eeek.

Re: what are you listening to?
I suppose it's commercialised music, it's not real intelligent lyric wise, but it sells - the Usher song I mean.
I haven't really listened to Hey Soul Sister, and not a keen Gaga fan, but I do admit to liking Fireflies, however, upon listening to the whole Owl City album, a lot of the songs sound the same, so it's not really that great.
I'm still really enjoying the Heroes For Hire album, along with Jamie Cullum's latest offering

Re: what are you listening to?
I downloaded Thirsty Merc's new album through iTunes this morning, and I'm loving it.
They'd come close to being my favourite Australian band, there's just something so honest about their music, and even though the songs start to sound samesy after a while (Mostly due to Rai's distinct vocals), it's quite enjoyable.
I'm off to see them next Saturday - for the fourth time, so it should be good :)
